How it works

At OCAD U we’re here to help you understand and plan for the costs of your education. Keep reading for information on tuition, then check out our cost calculator below to see an estimate for the program you’re interested in.  

Tuition fees are charged at either the domestic or international rate. The domestic tuition rate applies to Canadian citizens, permanent residents and their dependents, as well as exempted international students. The international tuition rate applies to all other students. 

Fee rates for each of our 7 graduate programs vary.

  • Fees are calculated on a per-credit* basis for the following programs:
    • Design for Health
    • Inclusive Design
    • Strategic Foresight and Innovation
*In full-time programs you will take 1.0-2.5 credits per semester. Check out your program guide for a more detailed breakdown. 
  • Fees are calculated on a per-semester basis for the following programs:
    • Contemporary Art, Design and Media Art Histories
    • Criticism & Curatorial Practice
    • Digital Futures
    • Interdisciplinary Art, Media and Design

The Laptop Program provides software and support for students bringing their own laptops to OCAD U for their learning and instruction in art and design. 

Graduate students in Digital Futures, Interdisciplinary Master's in Art, Media and Design or Design for Health are expected to have a laptop, either one you own already or one you purchase for school. Through the laptop program, we license Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft 365, LinkedIn Learning and other software. The laptop program fee is tax-deductible. 

As part of the Laptop Program, OCAD U provides comprehensive support through IT Services. This includes full support for recommended laptop models, assistance with Apple repairs, short-term laptop loans during repairs, malware removal, data recovery, and access to discounted storefronts.

Tuition Estimates

The approximate total tuition for each program is as follows:

  • Domestic Tuition: $19,000 - $30,000 CAD*
  • International Tuition: $49,000 - $69,000 CAD*
*Estimates are approximate and are based on the 2022-23 tuition rates. Estimates are for the total duration of the program (either 2 or 3 years depending on the length of the program).

Tuition fees change slightly from year to year but reviewing the current year can give you an idea of what the tuition fees will be for your program of interest.
